OAKLAND, CA – After two weeks of illegal disqualification of her election filings, Oakland Mayoral candidate Allyssa Victory Villanueva will be on the November 8 ballot.
The City attempted to disqualify Allyssa due to her endorser signatures filed on August 12, 2022. However, endorser signatures are required only by our City laws and are separate from nomination petition signatures. They are less formal and intended to allow noncitizens and other nonvoters to be represented in our political process. Allyssa fought back hard, disputing the illegal disqualification to the City Attorney’s Office and filing an elections complaint with the CA Secretary of State. Allyssa raised issues of her illegal disqualification but also sought an equitable remedy for the other candidates disqualified due to the Clerk’s Office’s errors in the filing deadline for all Mayoral candidates. Both the City Attorney’s and Secretary of State’s offices were ultimately responsive and helpful in reaching this justified resolution.
After delay and uncertainty, Allyssa received confirmation on Friday August 26 that the City did not dispute her position on the endorser signatures and would allow her candidacy to move forward as qualified. The City confirmed today August 29, 2022 that “Allyssa Victory Villanueva” will be placed on the public ballot and ballot guide for this November 8, 2022 general election.

OAKLAND, CA – Después de dos semanas de descalificación ilegal de sus presentaciones electorales, la candidata a la alcaldía de Oakland, Allyssa Victory Villanueva, estará en la boleta electoral del 8 de noviembre.
La Ciudad intentó descalificar a Allyssa debido a las firmas de su patrocinador presentadas el 12 de agosto de 2022. Sin embargo, las firmas de los patrocinadores solo son requeridas por las leyes de nuestra Ciudad y son independientes de las firmas de la petición de nominación. Son menos formales y tienen la intención de permitir que personas que no son ciudadanos ni votantes estén representadas en nuestro proceso político. Allyssa se defendió y cuestionó la descalificación ilegal ante la Oficina del Fiscal de la Ciudad y presentó una queja electoral ante el Secretario de Estado de California. Allyssa abordó los problemas de su descalificación ilegal, pero también buscó un remedio equitativo para los otros candidatos a la alcaldía descalificados debido a los errores de la Oficina del Secretario en la fecha límite de presentación. Tanto la Oficina del Abogado de la Ciudad como la del Secretario de Estado en última instancia respondieron y ayudaron a alcanzar esta resolución justificada.
Después de la demora y la incertidumbre, Allyssa recibió la confirmación el viernes 26 de agosto de que la Ciudad no cuestionó su posición sobre las firmas de los patrocinadores y permitiría que su candidatura avanzara como calificada. La Ciudad confirmó hoy, 29 de agosto de 2022, que “Allyssa Victory Villanueva” se incluirá en la boleta pública y guía de boletas para esta elección general del 8 de noviembre de 2022.
Allyssa SUCCESSFULLY fought to get on the ballot after she was illegally disqualified by the City for two (2) weeks. Allyssa filed an elections Complaint with the Secretary of State’s Elections Office outlining this dispute as well as other Clerk’s Office issues that caused harm to at least 3 other candidates in the Mayor’s race.
